Lift Once

When Andy first moved to Raleigh, he was fortunate to find a man named Jesse Davis to help with yardwork.  Jesse would work with Andy in the yard nearly every weekend.  One day, after observing Andy wear himself out without accomplishing much, Jesse said “you need to figure out how to just lift once.”  Andy said “Huh?”   Jesse said “Just watch me.  When I am out picking up sticks, I pick them up, and then I put them in the trash can.  That’s lifting once.  But when you pick up sticks, you pick some up, and then put them in a pile, and then later you pick up the pile, and maybe you’ll put the whole pile in the trash can, but lots of times you carry it somewhere else, put it down, then go get the trashcan and finally pick up once more and put everything in the can.”  Andy said “Uh huh.”  And the more he thought about it, he realized he was doing the same thing in many areas of his life that need to be organized, including digital pictures.
And so several years later, Andy applied the Jesse Davis “Lift Once” principle to taking digital pictures, by designing fo2go to allow advance selection of contacts and tags, and automatically sending those contacts and tags with each picture when it’s uploaded, so the fo2go server can then automatically archive the picture with tags, and send the picture to all selected contacts.  That’s it – no more taking a picture, uploading it, then sharing it via email (or sharing, then uploading).  With fo2go you just Lift Once from your iphone to the fo2go server and you’re done.
